   I’ve owned other rangefinders in the past, but this is by far the best. Past rangefinders I had were “no-name” ones and the glass quality was not great. The glass on this Burris rangefinder is crystal clear, and the eyepiece is easy to adjust and focus. The display in the glass is crisp and easily customizable. I initially was a little put off by the fact that it was battery powered and not rechargeable (as my past ones were)… however, after further consideration, it’s nice that I can keep a spare battery in my bag and I’ll never be caught without it if the battery were to die. You dont have that luxury with a rechargable one. This feels like a premium product and it really is in all aspects — I highly recommend it.

   This review is for the LRF 2000 Laser Rangefinder ($299.99). This item comes well packaged in a gift-worthy box and arrived in great condition. Inside the box there’s a carrying case, lanyard, lens cloth, battery, instruction manual, and the rangefinder itself. Everything looks great out of the box. To install the battery you lift a small tab on the battery cover (located directly below the eyepiece) and unscrew the cover. Polarity is indicated inside the compartment. To reinstall the cover you simply screw it back in to place and fold the tab down. It does have a fine machine thread, so you need to pay some attention when aligning it, but this is typical of components on optical devices. I had no trouble removing and installing the cover several times. Next you’ll want to focus the eyepiece, which you simply turn by hand. It moves easily and the optics are very clear once focused. There is no adjustable eye cup for use with glasses but I found it to be functional with or without glasses. Setting up the display is fairly easy. There is one feature I really like compared to other rangefinders I’ve used in the past: You can display both the actual distance and the horizontal equivalent distance at the same time. Alternatively you can display actual distance and angle of elevation at the same time. This is very helpful for avoiding confusion when ranging up or down hills. I have only tested the capabilities of this product superficially at the local park, and I find it to meet my expectations. It is rated as a 2000 yard rangefinder with max capability of 2400 yards on a reflective target. Typically you can assume reliable readings on trees, rocks, or game animals out to about 1/2 of the rated distance for reflective targets. If you have low light conditions or a more reflective target you’ll get better results. Press the button once to power on and press again for ranging, or you can hold down the button for continuous ranging, which is handy when you’re having trouble getting a good reading. I was able to get readings on sage brush at 1012 yards, numerous buildings at 900+ yards, and a variety of trees and structures at 600 yards and under. There aren’t many visible targets between 1000 and 2000 yards at my local park, and I couldn’t get any readings on the more distant targets. The readings are very quick. This compared pretty well with another 2000 yd rangefinder I tested in the past. So performance was satisfactory for an optic in this price range. I did notice a few small drawbacks. The mode button is not clearly labeled – there are matching logos on each side and one of them is the mode button. Since the entire eyepiece is used to focus the optics it can move inadvertently. Other designs have a small ring for focusing that is more protected. The lack of adjustable eye cup has already been mentioned, and I find this unit slightly more bulky than my other 2000 yd rangefinder. The carrying case is adequate but somewhat fiddly to use and has open corners which allow dust contamination (most other brands use a similar design). I will carry this in a separate chest pack that is fully enclosed so the case will only be used for storage. The big standout features that I like are the display options mentioned above and the “Forever Warranty” offered by Burris. This is a full lifetime warranty that requires no registration, no receipt, and “no questions asked”. Overall I think this is a pretty solid rangefinder at this price point. It should work very well for most sportsmen who need reliable ranging inside of 1000 yards.

   This is Burris’ first rangefinder and so far, just testing the rangefinder and ranging various objects on hills behind our house it appears that Burris a hit on their hands. The unit is well build and solid. While I can’t verify ranging out to 2400 yards (I don’t have that much open space by my house), I can confirm that it was able to range non-reflective objects in the 1000+ yard distance very quickly. These objects were ranged previously with our Vortex range finder so that provides some conformation of accuracy. Additionally, there is a ranging scan mode allows you to range object as you view them by holding down the ranging/power button. There is also display options for line of sight and angle range compensation. As for value, this Burris is price competitively with other 2000 yard range finders. Really looking forward to trying this out at the range

   So this is very nice looking and feels durable. You do get a clear picture with some finesse, and the zoom is incredible. However, I can’t locate the battery slot. I’ve focused on the pictures and no clue. I reached out and once I hear back I’ll update for the other features.

   First off this rangefinder is fantastic. It is well made and appears quite durable. The optics are clear and the rangefinder quickly finds the distance to the target. The only thing that I would change about this is if there was a way to easily attach it to things either through a built in arca-swiss rail or if there was a way of easily and quickly mounting alongside a scope or tripod, as it is built it only supports being used handheld. Other than that the rangefinder is excellent and would serve well as either a cool toy on the driving range or your next hunt.
