I looked at a few different safes and decided on this one because it offered multiple ways to open it. If the batteries die you plug it in, if the fingerprint scanner fails you use a code, if all fails you use a key. The fingerprint scanner works good for the price. I can easily fit my holstered firearm and 2 magazine holster inside with more space available. If someone wanted to open it I have no doubt they could with considerable effort but I feel that’s true of most of these types of safes. I think it secures my firearm well enough that no child would get it to open.

The safe worked for the first couple of months but now it doesn’t hold the code or fingerprint for more than a couple of hours, sometimes even less than that. The safe is connected to power and I’ve tried setting code and fingerprint multiple times and it works for a couple of minutes. I’ve resorted to using the key.

Update: Manufacturer reached out to me. Turns out the charging feature was defective. A feature I could care less about. They offered to replace my safe. I declined. Back to 5 stars because I’m a sucker for good customer service and these guys provided that. Plus the feature that doesn’t work is one I will never use. Safe works perfectly otherwise. I keep back up keys in my big combination safe. So if batteries ever die I’ll be fine. Also there is a battery meter. So if safe does die, it’s on account of my laziness.
Great safe w/out charging feature. 3 stars because my unit is either defective, or the safe requires 4 “rechargeable” AAA batteries. Instructions clearly state unit needs 4 AAA “alkaline” batteries *only*. Also manufacturer claims safe opens with external power supply and works without batteries. This is not true unless my unit is defective. No mention of using rechargeable batteries anywhere, so unless the safe has a rechargeable battery built in, it probably doesn’t even charge if the cable actually worked. Door opens smooth and nice little light inside.
