   This took me a while to review as getting to a range this time of year where I live is fairly difficult.

   The unit feels pretty sturdy, although I didn’t abuse it to try and find out. The horn/sound is clear and loud and it seems to be very accurate. It took me a little bit of playing around to learn the basic functions, the manual is a little fine print for me but there are videos on youtube showing how to use it.

   This is a good way to track your progress if you incorporate it into some consistent shooting drills.

   If you have not gotten accuracy down yet then start with that and move on to time training. Accuracy first, speed second.

   This shot timer seems alright for just starting out. The way it was packaged caused the battery to bust out and it was loose in the bag, making me think it had been a return, but that’s the sort of thing that happens when stuff is placed inside a bubble envelope and put in transit. Regardless, the timer seems to work alright. It’s taking a little bit to learn what all the things do, but it’s a good starting point.

   Background: I regularly shoot for fun for decades, but I have never formally trained with a timer before but wanted to try. For a beginner doing this kind of training, this timer works great. It’s easy to use and the buzzer is loud enough to hear if you have regular muffs and not electronic muffs (e.g. Walkers). The display is easy to read. I read in other reviews that changing the par often is complicated, but I’m not there yet. Also, I saw other reviewers wanting a rechargeable battery, but I actually prefer the 9V since if it dies during the day I can carry a spare rather than taking an hour off for it to charge.

   So, I would say for at least those just getting into timed training, this is a good quality timer. It may also be good for experienced in timed shooting exercises, but I’m not qualified to say. In either case, it’s durable and I expect it to last a long time.

   The size and backlit display on this shot timer are great—big, bright, and easy to see. The buttons are also well-designed, making them simple to press, even with gloves. Another plus is that it uses regular batteries, which can be more practical when you’re out in the field and don’t have access to charging options.

   The downside becomes obvious if you’re using it for progressive training. Adjusting the par time is a hassle, as you have to dig into the menu every time you want to make even the smallest change. This process is tedious and time-consuming, taking about 30 seconds to change something as small as 0.2 seconds. A quick adjustment mode, like holding the buttons for a few seconds, would solve this, and it’s surprising this feature isn’t included.

   While it’s loud and straightforward enough for competition settings where you’re sticking to one timing setup, it’s not ideal for dynamic training scenarios. Unless the manufacturer addresses the menu design, this timer won’t be my go-to for training purposes.

   The timer itself works great and I found it fairly easy to use. But when you need to change the settings it becomes awkward. You have to figure out the secret handshake. The battery compartment is very tight and it is difficult to get the battery out. This will certainly help improve your shooting.
