   My family is very involved with our local sports mans club and skeet shooting team. This was a huge hit with the guys when we brought this with us for a holiday skeet shoot this weekend. I did however find the holes hard to lace and was thankful I had a pair of hemostats to help. It may be that my hands don’t have a much dexterity as they used too. If you can help your special person with the lacing of this would make a great gift for the sportsman in your life

   I ordered this cartridge holder buttstock pad and sling for my Marlin 1895 lever action rifle in 45.70. The leather and stitching is top notch. The sling also comes with screw in studs and quick release sling mounts. The buttstock pad is a lace up style and fits my rifle’s buttstock very well, leaving only a very small strip of exposed wood at the bottom. The manufacturer states that the cartridge loops can hold up to 45.70, and 12 gauge cartridges. I had to use a considerable amount of force to get my 45.70 rounds into the loops. It appears it would be physically impossible to get a 12 gauge shell into those loops. I tried some 30.06 and .308 rounds, and they went in with minimal effort, as did my .243 Winchester rounds. I’m hoping that after being in the loops for a while the loops will stretch and make getting the 45.70 rounds in and out much easier. I imagine one could dampen,or lightly mist the loops with water, or leather conditioner, to speed that process up, letting the loops dry with the cartridges in place. You certainly don’t want the loops sloppy loose, but they have to be loose enough to allow a nice slip fit removal of the cartridges. The sling holds ten cartridges, and the buttstock pad holds seven. I rate this sling and buttstock pad a solid 5 stars.
