   I’ve been really impressed with the CVLIFE WolfCovert Red/Green Dot Sight. Right out of the box, it feels well-made, durable, and thoughtfully designed. The multi-reticle feature is a game-changer — being able to switch between the 3 MOA dot and the 50 MOA circle gives me flexibility for different shooting scenarios. Both red and green dot options are bright and clear, even in full sunlight.

   The motion awake function is a huge plus — it saves battery and is super responsive. I love that it includes an adapter for RMR, MOS, and a standard 21mm Picatinny rail, so mounting was a breeze on my pistol. The fiber optic system also helps with fast target acquisition, which makes this optic not only fun but incredibly effective.

   I already have a similar Wolf optic made by CVLIFE that has a green circle dot and when I wanted another one for my latest AR pistol build, I decided to give this model a try. What is unique about this model is the fiber optic rear backup sights, which I think is a great option for a pistol in case the battery dies unexpectedly during a shooting session. Pros: – The unit is made of a tough and durable aluminum construction throughout the housing, with angles on the shroud for impact resistance and the lens has a wide field of view. – It is very lightweight at 1.4-ounces with the battery installed, and with the picatinny mount it weighs 2.2-ounces. – It comes with a silicone or rubber protective cover, as well as a picatinny mount and Glock compatible MOS (Modular Optic System) adaptor plate, and a couple of batteries. – It is relatively easy to adjust for windage and elevation, but a flathead screwdriver is needed to do so. There are nice tactile clicks when making adjustments to the windage and elevation. – There are only two buttons, one on the port side and one on the starboard side. You must repeatedly depress either button to increase or decrease the amount of illumination. You can also turn it off from any brightness setting by pressing and holding the minus button. Lastly, pressing and holding the plus button lets you select either the circle, the dot, or both simultaneously. – There is a memory function, so when you turn on the unit from any particular brightness setting, it will resume to the last brightness setting at which you used it. – The Dot and Circle reticle can be used together or separately, making this sight very versatile for both long gun and pistol use (although it’s kind of small for long guns). – The Motion Awake Technology “shake-Awake” feature works well. After about four minutes it auto-turns off if no motion is detected to conserve battery power, but it comes on instantly with the slightest movement. Note that the unit must be turned on initially for this feature to work. – It has ten brightness settings (one of which is for night vision), and the highest setting works well on the brightest of days. – With an IPX7 waterproof rating it not only can be used in the rain, but it can be accidentally submerged in water, and it has a 1500G shockproof rating, so it can be knocked around a bit or dropped without too much fear of breakage or failure. – It has a battery life rating of up to 50,000 hours (for the lowest setting). – There are fiber optic pipets at the rear of the sight that can act as a backup sight if mounted to a pistol slide in case the electronics fail. – The feature I am most appreciative of is that you don’t have to remove the sight from the firearm to replace the battery, which is often the case for non-brand name red dot sights. Cons: – There is no lock mode that prevents the unit from accidentally being turned on during storage and transport. – Although you can access the battery compartment without removing the sight, the compartment is uneasily close to the lens, so if you are not careful, you could scratch or smudge the lens when changing out the battery. A hex wrench is also necessary to open the compartment. At least because the view window is further forward than other sights, you can insert the hex wrench the long way and not just with the short arm. Despite my minor nitpicks, at one-hundred and seventy dollars at the time of this writing, you are still getting a well-featured unit with several similar attributes to higher priced versions with a very easy to see red dot and red circle, and because of the large viewing window, I consider it a good value.

   I don’t have the real deal polymer framed staple from Austria. But what I do have is a replica pellet and AS version. This works great and doesn’t break the bank since I go out to the field for matches or just for plinking. The case use arguements in their description are generally true. I’ve found it most helpful in airsoft matches. At distance, this RD won’t really make much difference, but in close, I think it’s slightly better than open sights at say 20-30ft.

   As for durability, so far so good. Although I’ve only had one field day with it (like 6 matches). The downside to these is they get dirty easily and you have to keep up on them to get the most out of it. Where open sights, no need really. But there’s no free lunch so choose what works best for you. For me, I’m not paying Triji, EO or AP prices for something i’m putting on a toy; this is perfect.
