   I ordered these on a whim thinking they might prove useful, especially during the sometimes prolonged power outages we have after storms. The apparatus is almost startlingly light. Consumers have been conditioned to equate weight with durability and lightness with fragility, sometimes rightfully so, but I don’t think it’s fair to assume these are of a poor construction because they are lightweight until they prove this to be true. I have had no problems so far. Even with my limited (zero) experience with night vision lenses, I was able to figure out how to use them in a couple of minutes without consulting the manual. You definitely can make out things shrouded in darkness that you could not see without them. The resulting image is a grainy black and white roughly equivalent to what you might see on a ghost hunter program. It is a big selling point that you can capture or store photos or videos. I have had this for a while now and so far, I have only explored and experimented with them. The occasion when they would prove invaluable has not occurred yet, but storm season is in a few months, so we shall see.

   These ROCK….first and foremost, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS….then dont be afraid to play with this thing, its cool ! The Night Vision is AWESOME….zoom, pic / video, it has it all….Weights nothing….5 STARS….

   Right out of the box these feel cheap. They are lightweight but also feel like they are fragile. The buttons even click like the unit is cheap. However, once you turn them on and start using them they are pretty good. I’ve used them in daylight and in the dark and they work well for both. For me they certainly don’t replace binoculars, they are nice for nighttime use. These work on infrared, so they have a bright IR led that “lights up” the area you are looking at and the goggles can see the infrared. Keep this in mind when considering range and set your expectations accordingly especially considering the low price. These are about half the price of higher quality units. I have a set of the higher end brand and they really are quite a bit nicer and have separate eyepieces with moulded rubber cups. For the price I think these are nice, but if they are going to be used for anything but novelty I would opt for something in the $100 range.
